Today we're talking about something that many Germans love.

Kaffee und Kuchen!
Coffee and cake!

Das ist mehr als nur Essen und Trinken.
It's more than just food and drink.

Es ist eine kleine Tradition.
It's a little tradition.

Fast jeder in Deutschland kennt sie und macht sie regelmäßig.
Almost everyone in Germany knows it and does it regularly.

Besonders am Wochenende.
Especially on weekends.

Der Name sagt schon alles.
The name says it all.
[00:58]
Man trinkt Kaffee und man isst Kuchen.
You drink coffee and you eat cake.

Aber es geht nicht nur um den Geschmack.
But it's not just about the taste.

Es geht darum, Zeit miteinander zu verbringen, zu reden und zu entspannen.
It's about spending time together, talking, and relaxing.

Viele Familien treffen sich sonntags nachmittags zu Hause oder in einem Kaffee.
Many families meet on Sunday afternoons at home or in a cafe.

Man sitzt gemütlich zusammen, trinkt Kaffee, isst ein Stück Kuchen und redet über alles Mögliche.
They sit comfortably together, drink coffee, eat a piece of cake, and talk about all sorts of things.

Typisch sind einfache Kuchen, Apfelkuchen, Marmorkuchen, Käsekuchen oder Streuselkuchen.
Typical are simple cakes, apple pie, marble cake, cheesecake, or streusel cake.

In manchen Familien backt die Oma, in anderen bringt jemand etwas mit.
In some families, grandma bakes, in others someone brings something along.

Und oft riecht das ganze Haus nach frischem Kuchen.
And often the whole house smells of fresh cake.

Das ist ein schöner Moment.
That's a lovely moment.

Kaffee und Kuchen ist nicht so offiziell wie Mittagessen oder Abendessen.
Coffee and cake is not as formal as lunch or dinner.

Es ist eher gemütlich, freundlich und entspannt.
It's more cozy, friendly, and relaxed.

Manchmal dauert es nur eine halbe Stunde, manchmal zwei Stunden.
Sometimes it only lasts half an hour, sometimes two hours.

Man redet, man lacht und vielleicht isst man am Ende noch ein zweites Stück.
You talk, you laugh, and maybe you end up eating a second piece.

Auch in Cafés ist diese Zeit sehr beliebt.
This time is also very popular in cafés.

Am Nachmittag sind die Tische oft voll, besonders am Sonntag.
In the afternoon, the tables are often full, especially on Sundays.

Man hört das Klappern von Tassen, riecht den Kaffee, sieht viele Stücke Torte in der Vitrine.
You hear the clatter of cups, smell the coffee, see many pieces of cake in the display case.

Das gehört einfach zu Deutschland.
That's simply part of Germany.

Viele Menschen sagen sogar, Kaffee und Kuchen ist fast wie ein kleines Fest.
Many people even say that coffee and cake is almost like a little celebration.

Es ist ein Moment zum Abschalten, zum Zusammensein, zum Genießen.
It's a moment to switch off, to be together, to enjoy.

Und egal ob jung oder alt, fast jeder freut sich darüber.
And no matter whether young or old, almost everyone looks forward to it.

Wenn Du in Deutschland lebst, wirst Du bestimmt einmal zu Kaffee und Kuchen eingeladen.
If you live in Germany, you'll definitely be invited to coffee and cake sometime.
